American Airlines Exits Three Destinations in 2026, Including Doha, Santa Maria and Tijuana

American Airlines has exited three destinations entirely in 2026, marking its first complete withdrawals from a full market in several years.

The biggest cut was the termination of all service to Doha Hamad International Airport in Qatar, which ended in March 2026 after the airline had operated a Philadelphia‑Doha Boeing 787‑9 route since October 2023.

Domestically, American ended all service to Santa Maria Airport in California in May 2026; Allegiant Air now serves the airport alone.

In August 2026, the airline dropped its Phoenix‑to‑Tijuana International Airport nonstop route, which had launched in early 2024 and failed to attract the expected passengers. American continues to serve nine other Mexican cities from Phoenix.
