Hintz Wins Shootout as Stars Defeat Avalanche 3-2 at Ball Arena

The Dallas Stars defeated the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 in a shootout at Ball Arena on Wednesday. Roope Hintz scored the deciding goal in the fourth round of the shootout, beating Colorado goaltender Scott Wedgewood. The victory gave the Stars two points from their home-and-home series against their Central Division rivals, following a 3-2 loss to Colorado in the opening game on Tuesday.

Miro Heiskanen and Arttu Hyry scored during regulation for Dallas, while Casey DeSmith stopped 25 shots. Jason Robertson also scored for the Stars. For the Avalanche, Gabriel Landeskog and Brock Nelson found the net. Colorado earned a point after tying the game in the third period. Landeskog opened the scoring at 4:55 of the second period with a deflection of Nazem Kadri's shot. Heiskanen tied the game at 15:03 with a wrist shot from the left face-off circle.

Dallas coach Glen Gulutzan described the two games as closely contested, noting that each team controlled stretches of play. He expressed satisfaction with leaving Colorado with two points after the Stars came away empty-handed in the first matchup. Hintz stated that he tried to come in slower from the left side to pick his spot in the shootout.

The Colorado Avalanche, who have a 4-2-0 record, played without defenseman Cale Makar, who missed the matchup to be with his wife, Tracy, for the birth of their twins. Makar's return date remains uncertain. The Stars, with a 2-3-1 record, were also without Wyatt Johnston due to an illness, as he did not travel to Denver for the series.
