Kansas basketball head coach Bill Self is preparing for his 24th season at the University of Kansas as the Jayhawks begin their 2026-27 campaign. The team hosts Pittsburg State in an exhibition game on Friday at 7 p.m. (CT) inside Allen Fieldhouse. This contest is held in conjunction with the Late Night in the Phog event and serves as the first opportunity for the Jayhawks to perform against another opponent.
Returning Guards and New Recruits
Senior guards Tre White and Melvin Council Jr. are back with the team for the 2026-27 season, having been cleared to play following separate court cases. Although they will not start the exhibition game, both players are expected to see action. Self noted that both guards gained valuable insights during the offseason while pursuing NBA professional careers, which helped them understand the requirements for earning a roster spot.
The Jayhawks also welcome several new players, including freshman Tyran Stokes, who is the top-ranked high school recruit for the second consecutive year. Stokes is expected to be in the spotlight from the start of the season. Other key newcomers include freshman Taylen Kinney, transfer Keanu Dawes from Utah, and transfer Leroy Blyden Jr. from Toledo.
Upcoming Exhibition Schedule
The Pittsburg State game is the first of three home exhibition games scheduled for the Jayhawks. Kansas will next host Louisville on October 21 and Duke on October 25.
