Week 9 Rankings Shift After Upset‑Heavy Weekend

On Saturday, No. 8 Texas Tech was humbled by Cincinnati, losing 37-24 and seeing its 6-0 start end.

In the same round of games, No. 2 BYU fell to UCF in double overtime, giving the Knights their first-ever win over a top‑five AP opponent.

The weekend produced five ranked teams losing to unranked opponents, the most upsets in a single week this season.

Associated Press voter Brett McMurphy released his early Week 9 ballot on Sunday, keeping Miami at No. 1.

McMurphy’s ballot places Georgia at No. 2, Ohio State at No. 3, UCLA at No. 4 and Indiana at No. 5.

BYU dropped to No. 6 on his ballot, while USC fell out of his Top 25 entirely.

The full AP Top 25 poll is scheduled for release Sunday afternoon.

The losses by Texas Tech and BYU dealt a setback to the Big 12’s hopes of sending multiple teams to the College Football Playoff.
