Arsenal to Appeal Max Dowman's Carabao Cup Red Card as He Faces Three‑Match Ban
Arsenal will appeal the red card shown to 16‑year‑old Max Dowman against Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup.
Dowman was sent off late on during the Gunners’ shock fourth‑round defeat on penalties by the League Two side on Tuesday night.
He was dismissed after a heavy challenge from Harrison Neal and was shown a straight red card.
Standard Sport understands Arsenal have decided to appeal, which would otherwise set Dowman to serve a three‑match suspension.
The club must submit the necessary documents to the Football Association by 1 pm GMT on Thursday afternoon.
Arsenal hope a verdict will be reached before their Premier League trip to face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, though the timing is for the FA to determine.
As it stands, Dowman will be unavailable for Arsenal’s next three matches against Liverpool, Hull City and Newcastle United.
This would keep him out of domestic action until Arsenal host Manchester City on 29 November.
The suspension does not apply to European competitions, meaning Dowman would be available for the Gunners against Slavia Prague on 4 November.
