Six Killed, 15 Injured in Far‑Right Shooting at Krakow’s Main Market Square
Shooting in Krakow’s historic Main Market Square leaves six dead
Police said six people were killed and 15 injured after a gunman opened fire in the Main Market Square of Krakow on Saturday afternoon.
The attacker, a Polish citizen, drove into the square, wore military‑style fatigues and used a military‑type long gun, firing at random passers‑by.
Police officers shot the gunman during a gunfight a short distance from the square; he was wounded and transported to a hospital.
Police later found three additional bodies, likely the gunman’s family members, at his home.
Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski said the perpetrator was "fascinated by far‑right ideologies" and that many weapons were found in his car.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the incident as a "tragic shooting" in a post on X.
Czech police announced they will increase armed patrols in crowded public places and consider barriers at events, citing close contact with Polish counterparts after the attack that left six dead and 15 injured.
