The Los Angeles Dodgers edged out the Atlanta Braves 2-1 in a tense Friday night showdown at Truist Park, marking their sixth straight win and solidifying their spot atop the MLB standings.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivered a masterclass on the mound, holding the Braves hitless through five innings and ultimately allowing just one hit over six scoreless frames. His ERA now stands at a league-best 0.90, and he improved his record to 4-2 The Braves’ only breakthrough came with Austin Riley’s double in the sixth, but Yamamoto quickly extinguished the threat.
Mookie Betts provided the Dodgers’ offensive spark with a solo home run in the sixth-his first since mid-April-doubling LA’s lead after Will Smith’s earlier sacrifice fly. Braves starter Grant Holmes was impressive as well, striking out a career-high nine batters and limiting the Dodgers to four hits over six-plus innings, but the Atlanta offense couldn’t capitalize on his effort.
Matt Olson’s solo homer in the seventh put the Braves on the board, but closer Evan Phillips held on through a rain-delayed ninth inning to secure his first save of the season
The series continues Saturday with another anticipated pitching matchup as Atlanta’s Spencer Schwellenbach faces LA’s Roki Sasaki. Can the Braves bounce back, or will the Dodgers’ streak continue?
