Fans in Washington, D.C. were left stunned after Shakira’s highly anticipated concert at Nationals Park, set for Saturday, May 31, was abruptly canceled just a day before the show. The cancellation came on the heels of another nixed performance in Boston, both part of the singer’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour.
Organizers cited “complications with the previous show in Boston” as the main reason. Shakira’s full tour production could not be transported to D.C. in time, making it impossible to proceed as planned. The Boston show was called off due to safety concerns after structural issues were found during routine inspections, which also impacted other artists scheduled to perform at Fenway Park.
Shakira expressed her heartbreak in a statement, saying she was “sad and heartbroken” and promised fans she would do “everything in my power to be with you as soon as I can” D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser even urged the superstar to reschedule, emphasizing the city’s excitement to welcome her back soon.
Automatic refunds will be issued for tickets purchased via Ticketmaster and the Nationals’ official site. Fans who bought tickets through third-party sellers should contact their point of purchase directly.
As of now, there’s no official word on a new date, but Shakira has assured her D.C. fans she hopes to return as soon as possible.
