A major egg recall is underway after a multistate salmonella outbreak sickened at least 79 people and led to 21 hospitalizations across seven states. The recall, announced June by August Egg Company of Hilmar, California, affects more than.7 million eggs distributed to restaurants and retailers in Arizona, California, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Washington, and Wyoming.
The recalled eggs include brown cage-free and brown certified organic varieties, sold under brand names such as Clover, First Street, Nulaid, O Organics, Marketside, Raleys, Simple Truth, Sun Harvest, and Sunnyside They were distributed between February and May, 2025, with sell-by dates from March to June, 2025, at major retailers including Walmart, Safeway, Save Mart, FoodMaxx, Lucky, Smart & Final, Raleys, Food Less, and Ralphs.
Consumers are urged to check egg cartons for plant codes “P-6562” or “CA-5330” and Julian dates between 32 and 126 Anyone with recalled eggs should not eat them and should either discard them or return them to the place of purchase. Surfaces and items that came into contact with these eggs should be washed with hot, soapy water.
Symptoms of salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps, typically appearing to 72 hours after exposure. While most people recover within a week, young children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for severe illness.
No deaths have been reported, and the FDA and CDC continue to investigate the outbreak and monitor for additional cases.
