Pharmacy Openings on Thanksgiving: A Comprehensive Guide

Thanksgiving is a time for family, feasting, and reflection, but it can also be a time of need for essential services like pharmacies. As we approach Thanksgiving 2025, many are wondering, "is Walgreens open on Thanksgiving?" and "is CVS open on Thanksgiving?" The answers, as we will explore, depend on the specific locations and their operational hours. This guide will provide a clear picture of what to expect from these major pharmacy chains this holiday season

## Walgreens Thanksgiving Hours: What to Expect

Walgreens, a widely trusted pharmacy chain, has a varied schedule for Thanksgiving. Most Walgreens locations will be closed on Thanksgiving, November 27, 2025. However, the 24-hour locations will remain open, providing essential services for those who need them. It is crucial for customers to check their local store's specific hours, either through the Walgreens store locator or by calling the store directly. For those who rely on Walgreens for their daily medication, there are multiple options for pharmacies that will be open on Thanksgiving, including 24-hour stores.

## CVS Thanksgiving Hours: A Slightly Different Scenario

CVS Pharmacy locations will be open on Thanksgiving, but with a twist. Most CVS stores will operate with reduced hours, and some 24-hour locations may stay open. This means that while you can still access essential services, it's important to plan your visit accordingly. Customers are advised to check the store and pharmacy hours on the CVS Pharmacy website or by calling their local store to confirm the exact times. This flexibility ensures that customers have access to necessary medications and services, even during the holiday.

## Planning Ahead: Tips for a Smooth Thanksgiving

While both Walgreens and CVS have measures in place to ensure customers have access to their medications, planning ahead can make the process smoother. Check your local store's hours well in advance and consider stocking up on essentials before the holiday. Additionally, many grocery stores, like Target and Kroger, will be open on Thanksgiving, providing an alternative for last-minute needs. However, pharmacies inside these stores may not be operational on Thanksgiving. It's always a good idea to have a backup plan and know the hours of nearby pharmacies that will be open.
