Trump Accounts Open for Children 17 and Younger

Trump Accounts, a new type of tax‑advantaged savings account for children, are now available for kids 17 and younger. As of this month, all eligible children have been automatically enrolled.

The accounts were created as part of President Donald Trump’s 2025 sweeping tax bill and are limited to children who have not turned 18 before the end of the calendar year and who possess a valid Social Security number.

U.S. citizens born between Jan. 1 2025 and Dec. 31 2028 qualify for a one‑time federal contribution of $1,000. Children under 10 who live in lower‑income areas could qualify for $250.

Enrollment occurs automatically when a child has a valid Social Security number, but parents must claim the account and request the contribution on the child’s behalf. The child cannot access the deposited funds until reaching age 18.
